In the past two months, Prof. Zhu Xiaoman, director of INRULED, has led her doctoral students and postdoctoral scholars to villages in Shanxi and Zhejiang province for face-to-face questionnaires. This research is for two projects: “Education for Rural Development: Current State and Policy Studies” and “Spiritual and Moral Situation of Adolescents in Social Transition: Current State and Policy Studies”. Both projects involved fieldwork in three provinces in three economic development stages. And in each province, two cities, two townships and four villages were chosen as samples. From Oct. 27 to Nov. 8, the research team did questionnaires in Xi’an City, Xian’yang City and Han’cheng City of Shan-xi province. From Nov. 24 to Dec. 4, the team did questionnaires in Chang’xing County, Feng’hua City and Hangzhou City of Zhejiang province. All questionnaires included face-to-face interviews with the informants, covering topics on rural education and rural ethics and culture, rural economic development and rural people’s healthcare practices. Meanwhile, the research also included questionnaires and interviews to students in various levels on their spiritual and moral situations.

After solid work, the team already collected over 8600 valid questionnaires. Fieldwork is an integral part of INRULED research which aspires to bring positive changes to the mind and behavior of rural people.
